St. Paul’s in Closter Celebrates Ascension Day May 30 at 7:30 PM

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 171 Closter Dock Road in Closter, New Jersey, will celebrate Ascension Day with a service of Holy Communion on Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 PM. A reception will follow in the church library. The members of the community are invited to participate in the service the reception afterwards.

“Ascension Day is sometimes considered the forgotten holiday of the church year,” comments Rev. Robert Holsten, pastor of St. Paul’s. “Jesus appeared a number of times to His disciples after His resurrection from the dead. Jesus promised  His disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples that they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. Then, forty days after Easter, as His disciples watched, Jesus visibly ascended into the sky until a cloud hid Him from sight. Two angels promised the disciples that Jesus would return visibly from heaven on the Last Day.”
“I smile when I remember what one little boy told one of our senior pastors when that pastor asked, “Why did Jesus ascend into heaven?” Pastor Holsten mentions. “The boy answered quickly, ‘Because He got the job done!’ Through His cross and resurrection, Jesus truly has redeemed this world. We share this Good News not only at our Ascension service, but throughout the year.”
